So lets say SHTF, like zombies attack or the dollar goes tit's up. Your on the move for whatever reasons. You have some type of rifle on your persons, but what sidearm did you choose to take along?

Id take my Hk USP in a blackhawk leg holster. 12+1 rounds of .45 plus the dependability of HK.

Good choice, that HK. I'd bring my SA 1911, not as many rounds, but heck I don't have an HK. That Judge might be a nice SHTF gun, especially at close quarters if the Zombies somehow get past your AR-15.

Well get you one then while the gettings good! Nothing wrong with a 1911, my fav semi auto handgun.

True on the judge but for in a situation like that, high weight plus low ammo capacity means I would be trading it for some kind of supplys or ammo.

That's a tough question, since I prefer revolvers, but right now it would probably be my Sig P-220. But it would be hard to leave my GP100 behind.

i think as long as your gun's are the same caliber multible gun's wouldn't be a bad idea but why a revolver? sorry yall you know me i don't see much of a reason for a revolver anymore

Because it's a .357, and there's nothing better for one shot stops, plus it could be used to hunt if necessary.

Center fire rifle? Then I'd want a .22 LR handgun. My Ruger Mark I Target probably. It's been with me in a lot of places over the last 40+ years and when called upon has fed me well.

9mm or 45acp for availability of ammo if it really hit the fan. However, considering the lack of availability for parts, I wish I had a revolver for straight out reliability as it is my understanding that they don't wear out as fast.

Not sure about 9mm, 45acp or any other type of handgun ammo. Have you been in a walmart recently? Lots of empty shelves, especially for the more popular rounds. Of course the serious SHTF folks probably have a doomsday supply stashed away. Wish I did.

When the SHTF Really badly, and you use your firearms to get you out of population dense areas, it's the BOW AND ARROW that will get you fed.

Exactly the popular rounds are all sold out which means they are in circulation. If it hits the fan really bad it will be a dog eat dog world for a while. I hate to admit it but when there's no reality tv or such to distract people it will get nasty fast. Scenario: Some scum tries to rob you but you get the better of him and take his ammo that he bought from wal mart before everything totally fell into the sink hole.

If it was just a food issue then I see a lot of substenance farming in backyards and a major decrease in the squirel population, but I do wish I had a bow.

Of course this is all for naught if the problem comes from zombies, but recent events lead me to believe the survivors of this mess will be the lucky ones to deal with them.

Went to a large wally world today and they had one box of .45acp and no .380. They haven't had .380 in weeks according to the clerk. We then went to the largest gun/outdoor store in an hour radius and they had no .380, either. Their handgun selection was 50% of the last time in there and it was down then. Almost no used stuff. I did see a .460 and .500 S&W but carry sized guns were especially few. They had a couple AR's, but I didn't want to go into sticker shock so did not ask to see them. Pretty good supply of reloading supplies and lots of survival gear and clothing. People here must be taking SHTF pretty seriously.

Mine are 2 Glocks; 17 & 26..... Both 9mm, and many common parts between them. Both fit the same holsters, and I have 5000+ 9mm. I have 2 other Glocks again in 9mm... One each in 2 remote caches with complete SHTF kits. That way if forced to leave home empty handed, I won't stay that way for long.

Not a pistol, but I also have a 12Ga in each kit (a Mossberg 500 and an Ithica 37 both with pistol grips) with 200 rounds each. Soon, I'll have two 9mm Carbines to add to the remote caches.... Am I being paranoid? or prepared?

Jezz, now I know why there is no 9mm around here too.:D Good planning having the same calibers. What are you getting for rifles?
